Equanimity of Trees

I run on hard packed trails
Fast and strong until my breath is short
And my heart returns
To the faithful beat of living.

As the equanimity of the trees
Overcomes the remembering, I stop
And kneel as if to retie my shoelaces
When in truth, I am only praying in relief.
